Man in his 40s dies after being trapped between excavator and truck at Paju waste facility

A worker in his 40s died after becoming trapped between a reversing excavator and a truck at a waste treatment facility in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.

The accident occurred at about 2:50 p.m. the previous day at the facility in Jeokseong-myeon, according to Paju Police Station. Police said the truck driver, identified as A, was struck by the reversing excavator and then caught between the two vehicles.

He went into cardiac arrest and was taken to a nearby hospital, but died while receiving treatment. Police believe he had been using an air gun to clean the back of the truck when the accident happened.

The excavator operator, a man in his 60s identified as B, reportedly told police that he had not seen the worker. Police booked him on suspicion of negligent homicide under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents and are investigating the precise circumstances, including the truck driver's employment relationship.
