Man indicted after being caught with loaded gun in Jerusalem's Old City

Israeli police indicted a 43-year-old Hebron resident on Sunday after arresting him near Jerusalem's Damascus Gate on May 29 with a loaded handgun. Authorities suspect the man was in Israel illegally and possessed the firearm without authorization. His detention was extended to June 11 as investigations continue.

The arrest occurred after police observed the man in a "suspicious circumstance." A search revealed the loaded handgun and confirmed his illegal presence in Jerusalem. Hebron is a city in the southern West Bank.

In separate operations over the weekend, Israeli police and Border Police forces confiscated several weapons and drugs across southern Israel. These included the seizure of three Glock pistols and suspected crystal meth from two Bedouin individuals in a vehicle, leading to their arrest. Another operation found an abandoned vehicle containing a concealed handgun and ammunition. In a third incident, officers near Rahat seized three M-16 rifles and arrested one suspect.

Additionally, two Israeli settlers were arrested on Sunday on suspicion of involvement in violent clashes in Huwara on Saturday. The clashes reportedly involved stone-throwing and the use of clubs between Israeli civilians and Palestinians, according to the IDF. Army Radio reported masked settlers involved in the incident, though the IDF later denied that some Palestinians were injured.
