Man Indicted for Sexually Assaulting Student, Framing Wife

A man in his 60s faces charges for sexually assaulting a high school student and then orchestrating a scheme to blame his wife. The incident occurred in November at a high school in Daejeon, where the suspect allegedly touched a female student inside an elevator.

Initially, police investigations focused on the man's wife, who was sent to prosecutors after providing statements that could be interpreted as placing her at the scene with her husband. However, prosecutors grew suspicious of the accounts and launched a supplementary investigation.

Through detailed analysis of mobile phone data and further interviews, investigators discovered evidence that the man had planned to frame his wife from the outset. He even allegedly asked a female acquaintance who was with him at the time to pretend to be his wife when speaking with the police. His wife also reportedly provided statements favorable to her husband during the police inquiry.

Prosecutors ultimately determined the wife was not involved and cleared her of charges. The man has been indicted for violating the Act on the Protection of Children and Adolescents against Sex Offenses. A prosecutor stated that the investigation revealed the suspect had lied consistently since the early stages of the inquiry.
