Man jailed after threatening neighbors and police with a knife

A 32-year-old man has been placed in pretrial detention after allegedly threatening neighbors and police officers with a knife in Buje, Croatia.

The incident took place at 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 27 in Nikola Tesla Street. Police went to the address after receiving a citizen’s report that the man was disturbing public order by banging objects, shouting and threatening neighbors.

When officers arrived, they found him yelling, making threats and continuing to cause a disturbance. He allegedly began insulting the officers as well. After they told him to calm down, he pulled out a knife, waved it toward them and threatened them.

Police managed to overpower and arrest him. He was questioned by the Pazin Municipal State Attorney’s Office, which opened an investigation on suspicion of coercion against an official. After questioning, a court ordered his detention because of the risk that he could repeat the offense.
