Man rescued from Xizhi apartment fire

Thick black smoke billowed from the fifth floor of a residential building on Kangning Street in Xizhi District, New Taipei City, on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a swift response from the New Taipei City Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the report and quickly rescued a man trapped inside the apartment. The 50-year-old resident was conscious and showed no obvious external injuries. However, as a safety precaution, he was transported to the hospital for further examination.

The New Taipei City Fire Department's Sixth Rescue and Firefighting Brigade received the alarm at 11:42 a.m. regarding a fire in a seven-story apartment building. The continuous stream of black smoke emanating from the fifth-floor window and reports of a trapped occupant led the department to dispatch a significant response: one brigade, five detachments, 20 fire trucks, and 47 firefighters.

Firefighters entered the burning unit with rescue equipment and water lines. By 12:03 p.m., they successfully made contact with the man. Preliminary investigations by firefighters indicated that the fire originated in the living room of the fifth-floor apartment, burning through approximately 5 square meters of miscellaneous items. The exact cause of the fire and the extent of property damage are currently under investigation by fire marshals.
