Man sentenced to 45 years for feminicide in Mexico City

A judge has sentenced Alejandro “N” to 45 years in prison for the feminicide of his partner, an act that occurred on June 15, 2018, in the Santa Ana Poniente neighborhood of Tláhuac, Mexico City. The prosecution stated that Alejandro attempted to make the murder appear as a suicide.

According to the capital's Attorney General's Office (FGJ), Alejandro attacked and killed his partner in their home using a rope. He then allegedly poured alcohol into the victim's mouth and placed bottles on the floor to simulate a suicide.

Interviews with the victim's family members confirmed a history of domestic violence. Expert reports from various fields, including medicine, criminalistics, necropsy, chemistry, psychology, pathology, and lesion mechanics, established the sequence of events and confirmed that the crime scene had been altered. Based on the gathered evidence, an arrest warrant was issued for Alejandro, which was executed on April 5, 2022. He was subsequently brought to trial two days later.

Following the trial, the judge imposed the 45-year sentence. The court also ordered the payment of reparations for damages. This includes compensation equivalent to five thousand minimum daily wages, two months' minimum wage for funeral expenses, and over 78,000 pesos for the psychological harm inflicted upon five indirect victims, as reported by the FGJ.
