Man shoots hearing-impaired brother; neutralized in operation

A violent incident unfolded in Muş, Turkey, when a man identified as Erkan S., reportedly suffering from psychological issues, shot his hearing-impaired brother, Bahtiyar S., during a domestic dispute. The attack occurred in the Muratpaşa neighborhood.

Following the shooting, Bahtiyar S. received initial medical attention at the scene before being transported to Muş State Hospital. His condition was serious enough to warrant a subsequent transfer to Van for more advanced diagnostic and treatment procedures. Local residents alerted authorities, leading to the swift dispatch of health and police teams.

After the shooting, Erkan S. retreated into his home, refusing to negotiate with the police who had arrived to apprehend him. He reportedly responded to their attempts at de-escalation by firing his weapon, causing damage to nearby buildings and vehicles. A significant police presence, including special operations units, surrounded the residence, establishing a security perimeter and evacuating civilians from the immediate area. After prolonged negotiation attempts failed, security forces launched an operation. During this operation, one police officer sustained injuries, and Erkan S. was shot and neutralized. The injured officer was hospitalized, and an investigation into the entire incident has been initiated.
