Man shot by police charged with attempted murder but released

A 24-year-old man, who was shot by police during a car chase in Haderslev, Denmark, has been charged with attempted murder. The incident occurred Sunday morning when police pursued the man, ultimately firing shots that struck him in the leg.

Authorities from the South and West Jutland Police stated that the grounds for the attempted murder charge were not specified, nor was the identity of the alleged victim. Despite the serious charge, the man was released Sunday evening.

Police did not deem it necessary to bring the man before a preliminary hearing judge for remand custody. The release came after the man was taken to the hospital for his injuries. The Independent Police Complaints Authority (DUP), which investigates police shootings, is expected to interview the man first before police can conduct their own interrogation.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the 24-year-old's driving between approximately 9:40 AM and 9:55 AM on Sunday. The man was reportedly driving a gray Citroën C4 on various roads in the Haderslev area. South and West Jutland Police have declined further comment on the ongoing case.
