Man shot dead in Ondo after confronting four-man robbery gang

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of a technician, Idris Clement, during a robbery incident. Clement, 47, was allegedly attacked by a four-man gang at his residence in Akure, the state capital, on Friday.

We have arrested a suspect in connection with the violent attack on residents of the Shagari area and the killing of the technician. The suspect is currently in our custody at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department and is assisting the police with the investigation.

According to reports, the robbers stormed the community around 1 a.m., dispossessing residents of their valuables before entering Clement's home. The victim reportedly confronted one of the robbers in an attempt to defend his family. However, he was attacked with axes and cutlasses before being shot by one of the assailants. The robbers fled the scene immediately after Clement collapsed. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood loss.

We will ensure that everyone involved is arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the robbery gang who are still at large.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Public Relations Officer for the state police command, confirmed the arrest of one suspect who is currently assisting with the ongoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department. Jimoh assured that the police would not let the matter be swept under the rug and are actively working to apprehend the other members of the robbery gang who are still at large.

The armed robbers came into our street around 1 a.m. and started robbing residents. They had robbed about two other houses before they came into our house in full force.

The deceased's son, AbdulFatai Clement, described the attack as devastating. The widow, Mrs. Taibat Clement, appealed to the Ondo State Government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible for her husband's death are brought to justice. The police have stated that a thorough investigation is underway, and all culpable individuals will face the full extent of the law.

My father did not want to leave anything to chance, so he confronted one of the robbers to defend the family, not knowing there were about three or four of them and that they were heavily armed. They attacked him with axes and cutlasses before one of them brought out a gun and shot him. The robbers fled immediately after he collapsed. We rushed him to the hospital, but he had lost so much blood. The doctors later confirmed him dead.
