Man Sprays Woman in Face After Following Her in Hsinchu

A woman walking alone late at night in Hsinchu County's Hukou Township narrowly escaped a terrifying ordeal after being followed and sprayed in the face with an unknown substance by a man who initially approached her under the guise of asking for directions.

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. when the victim, who lives alone, went out to buy a late-night snack. A man on a white motorcycle, described as being in his 30s, repeatedly approached her, asking for directions. Despite her attempts to brush him off, he persisted, even inquiring about her residence.

As the woman tried to evade him, the man produced a spray can and sprayed it directly at her face, blocking her path. She managed to hold her breath and turn her head, but still felt dizzy. She then sought help from a convenience store employee and reported the incident to the police.

Her friend posted about the incident online to warn others, noting that the attacker wore a helmet and mask. The victim had tried to record him secretly on her phone as she walked to a different convenience store to avoid being followed home.

Police are investigating and have identified a suspect from the Hsinchu County areas of Hengshan and Zhudong. They also confirmed that the white motorcycle the man was riding had been reported stolen. While the woman was treated for minor injuries, the investigation into the assault continues.
