Man suspected of human trafficking after threatening victim to steal

Zagreb police have charged a 27-year-old man with human trafficking, alleging he exploited a 21-year-old victim for years by forcing him to commit crimes. The suspect is accused of using physical force, threats, and emotional manipulation to control the younger man, who was allegedly coerced into stealing various items from Zagreb stores.

According to the police, the suspect preyed on the victim's weakened physical and mental state, creating a situation of intense fear, helplessness, and dependency. The stolen goods were allegedly taken by the suspect, some kept for himself and others sold for his financial gain. This exploitation reportedly lasted for years, with the suspect leveraging the victim's emotional state and age to maintain control.

The case came to light in April when the suspect physically assaulted the 21-year-old, taking his mobile phone and money. The suspect then threatened to kill the victim and his family if he did not steal perfumes from a shopping center. However, this time, the victim refused and instead sought help from security guards at the mall, leading to the suspect's arrest.

Police stated that the 27-year-old had established a relationship of dependency and debt with the victim, constantly monitoring him. This behavior is said to contravene international laws and conventions related to human trafficking, forced labor, and organized crime.
