Man undergoes limb-saving surgery after bus hits shelter

A 42-year-old man is in critical condition after a bus collided with a bus shelter, leading to its collapse and trapping him underneath. The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. on Monday at Township Drive in Burleigh Heads.

Emergency services, including police and ambulance officers, responded to the scene. They found the man with severe injuries to his arm and chest, which were described as potentially life-threatening. He was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he underwent surgery overnight in an attempt to save his arm.

Queensland Health confirmed the man remains in a critical condition following the surgery. The Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating the exact cause of the collision. Police are appealing to the public for any witnesses or individuals with relevant dash-cam vision to come forward.

Bus operator Kinetic and the Transport Workers Union have been contacted for comment regarding the incident.
