Man wanted for questioning lights himself on fire as police arrive in Herzliya

A 30-year-old man set himself on fire in Herzliya, Israel, on Friday as police teams arrived to question him. The incident occurred when officers from the Glilot station were operating in the Yarkon area.

According to police suspicions, the man poured flammable material on himself and the ground before igniting it. Officers at the scene immediately called for medical assistance and provided first aid until Magen David Adom paramedics arrived. The suspect was then evacuated to a hospital in serious condition.

The police were seeking the man in connection with an incident involving threats made to social workers at the Herzliya Municipality. He is also suspected of brandishing a stone toward staff members.

Additional officers and forensic investigators from the Glilot and Yarkon stations arrived at the scene. They collected findings and evidence and have opened an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the self-immolation.
