Man who threatened nurses and pushed one into wall sentenced in Taiwan

A man in Hsinchu has been sentenced to six months in prison for threatening and assaulting nurses at a hospital. The incident occurred when Chen Wenfeng visited the Far Eastern Memorial Hospital for treatment.

During a procedure involving a blood draw and wound dressing, Chen became impatient and verbally threatened three nurses, stating, "Don't think I wouldn't dare to hack someone with a knife, I just don't want to." He then physically pushed one of the nurses, causing her to hit a wall and sustain injuries to her right shoulder and lower back.

Following the incident, Chen offered the three nurses NT$20,000 (approximately $620 USD) as a settlement. However, the nurses rejected the offer. The judge presiding over the case also criticized the amount, stating that it was "limited" in sincerity considering the physical and psychological distress the nurses endured.

The judge noted that Chen's actions significantly disrupted medical order and created a risk of violence and intimidation for frontline healthcare workers. The court considered Chen's initial denial of the charges and his eventual admission only after being detained. Despite the settlement offer, the judge found it insufficient to address the harm caused, leading to the six-month prison sentence for obstructing medical personnel in their duties.
