Manchester City’s £80m move for Cody Gakpo close to collapse

Manchester City’s proposed £80 million move for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo is close to collapsing. Liverpool remains reluctant to sell unless it can secure another attacking player before the transfer deadline.

The Anfield club signed France forward Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee worth up to £123 million, but still wants another winger if Gakpo leaves. Its efforts to pursue Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace’s Ismaïla Sarr have run into valuation problems.

Liverpool is therefore expected to keep the 27-year-old Netherlands international unless it can revive a deal for a replacement. Manchester City has an interest in Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye and could now redirect its efforts toward the Senegal international.

Ndiaye had been expected to join Tottenham, but City’s continued interest could lead the Etihad club to advance with a possible move before the deadline.
