Manchester United crush Ipswich 5-2 for first league win as Bruno Fernandes scores hat-trick

Manchester United turned an early setback into a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford, giving the club its first win of the new Premier League season.

Ipswich struck first in the 29th minute when Leif Davis converted a cross from Abdul Fatawu Issahaku. United responded before halftime, with captain Bruno Fernandes scoring on a counterattack in the 40th minute to level the match.

United moved ahead in the 11th minute of the second half after an Ipswich own goal. Fernandes then took control of the game. He scored from the penalty spot in the 16th minute and completed his hat-trick seven minutes later after a deflected ball fell to him.

Fernandes also set up Brian Mbeumo for United’s fifth goal in the 37th minute. Ipswich scored once more late in the match, but United held on for a decisive victory. The result came after United opened their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Hull City, while Ipswich had entered the game seeking a third straight competitive win after victories over Sunderland and Leicester City.
