Manchester United Stumble Again After Squandering Two Leads in Dramatic Everton Draw

Manchester United let victory slip away twice at Everton, conceding a spectacular equaliser from Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the 96th minute to draw 2-2.

Michael Carrick’s side appeared to have the match under control after Brian Mbeumo put United ahead shortly after halftime. Everton levelled through a powerful Tyrique George strike in the 83rd minute, with goalkeeper Senna Lammens appearing to have had a chance to do more.

Benjamin Sesko restored United’s lead five minutes later with an unmarked header from Luke Shaw’s cross. It looked like the winning goal, but Everton kept pushing even after the five minutes of added time had elapsed.

The final move began with a long kick from Jordan Pickford and a run by debutant Jack Grealish. United failed to clear the ball on the edge of the area, allowing Maitland-Niles, who had come on 15 minutes earlier, to place a shot into the corner beyond Lammens.

The draw gave David Moyes’ Everton five points. United have four from three matches, and the result added to concerns about a team still searching for consistency after its opening defeat by Hull City and a win over Ipswich Town.
