Manitoba RCMP respond to possible drowning of Alberta man in Nelson River

Search operations are underway in northern Manitoba for an Alberta man who may have drowned while fishing. James Redmond, 60, was reported missing after he was last seen early Monday morning near Kelsey, Man.

Manitoba RCMP, along with a private diving company, are focusing their search efforts on a section of the Nelson River close to the Kelsey Generating Station. Redmond was known to fish from the shore of the river.

Officers discovered gear belonging to Redmond approximately 200 meters upstream from the generating station. Authorities believe this location is where Redmond entered the river. The Thompson Rural RCMP detachment received the initial reports and is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

The search is ongoing as crews canvass the river. The incident highlights the potential dangers associated with recreational activities in the area.
