Mar del Plata drug bust nets over 16 kilos of cocaine, arrests alleged 'Drug Myth'

Authorities in Mar del Plata, Argentina, have dismantled a sophisticated drug trafficking organization, seizing over 16 kilograms of cocaine and 1.5 kilograms of synthetic drugs. The operation, a result of a judicial investigation involving various federal security forces, also led to the arrest of seven individuals.

Among those detained is Sergio Sala, known in the underworld as "Cocoon" and once dubbed "The Drug Myth" of Mar del Plata. National Security Secretary Martín Ferlauto described the group as "very large, very sophisticated, with a particular character, pursued by the entire judicial system." The investigation was spearheaded by the Operational Unit for Narcotrafficking Control and Complex Cases of the Airport Security Police.

Further details are expected following a formalization hearing presided over by federal judge Santiago Inchausti. The seized items included not only drugs but also processed marijuana, 139 cannabis plants, nearly $80,000 USD, and seven million Argentine pesos in cash. Officials noted the organization's extensive reach across the national territory, emphasizing the significance of dismantling such a well-established criminal structure.
