Maracay Cemetery Accused of Reselling Graves Without Family Consent

Residents of Maracay, Venezuela, have raised alarms over alleged illegal resale of burial plots at the Metropolitan Cemetery. The accusations surfaced following a video circulating on social media, depicting a woman confronting cemetery personnel about the exhumation of her brother's grave.

The woman reportedly arrived at the cemetery for routine maintenance of her family's plots, only to find workers excavating several graves, including her brother's. She expressed outrage, stating the exhumations occurred without family consent and were allegedly done to resell the plots. The video shows multiple open graves and stacked headstones, indicating numerous exhumations.

The fate of the exhumed remains is currently unknown. When the woman confronted cemetery staff, they reportedly ignored her complaints. Neither the Municipal Funeral Services Foundation of Girardot (FUNCEMAR) nor the Maracay Mayor's Office has issued a statement regarding the incident. The community is demanding answers from the authorities about the reasons behind these exhumations.
