Chilean midfielder Marcelino Núñez experienced a significant career milestone, making his debut in the English Premier League as a starter for Ipswich Town. The match, the first of the 2026/2027 season, saw Ipswich secure a thrilling 2-1 victory against Sunderland at Portman Road.

Núñez was a key figure in Ipswich's midfield, tasked with generating attacking plays. His first taste of top-flight English football concluded in the 80th minute when he was substituted for Sindre Walle Egeli, having contributed to his team's efforts throughout the game.

The scoring opened with a goal from Ipswich's Brazilian forward Emersson in the 24th minute. However, Sunderland found an equalizer in the 38th minute with a well-placed free-kick from Ecuadorian player Nilson Ángulo, which beat goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen.

Despite the setback, Ipswich Town continued to press for a winner. Their persistence paid off in the 90th minute when substitute Jack Clarke, who had replaced Julio Enciso earlier in the second half, fired a precise shot into the left post of goalkeeper Robin Roefs, securing the dramatic late victory for his team.
