Marco Rubio, 2028 Presidential Favorite? J.D. Vance Trails in Latest Polls

The race for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination is still far off, but early polling is already evaluating potential contenders. A recent survey by Emerson College Polling and The Hill suggests Senator Marco Rubio may hold an edge over Vice President J.D. Vance.

The poll, conducted between August 16-17 with 1,000 likely voters, found Rubio performing better than Vance in four out of five hypothetical matchups against Democratic candidates like Kamala Harris, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Gavin Newsom, and Jon Ossoff. The only scenario where Vance outperformed Rubio was against Pete Buttigieg.

This represents a shift from a June Emerson College poll, where Vance had a slight lead over Rubio in a hypothetical Republican primary contest. While the August poll does not definitively predict who will secure the nomination, it indicates Rubio's stronger performance in general election matchups.

Vance has stated he will consider his political future, including a potential presidential bid, after the November 3 midterm elections. He mentioned discussing his plans with his wife, Usha Vance.
