Marco Rubio Recounts 'Almost Psychotic' Experience on Keto Diet

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has shared his negative experience with the ketogenic diet, stating that restricting sugar made him irritable and led to mood swings he described as "almost psychotic."

Rubio recounted his struggles during an interview on The Katie Miller Podcast, where he discussed family life, marriage, and religion. When asked about adopting diets associated with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s 'Make America Healthy Again' (MAHA) initiative, Rubio expressed skepticism about the long-term sustainability of primarily meat and fermented vegetable-based regimens. He emphasized the difficulty of adhering to such strict eating plans in everyday life, even questioning how one could manage while traveling internationally with containers of sauerkraut.

Despite his personal reservations about extreme dietary restrictions, Rubio clarified that he supports the broader MAHA movement's aim to improve health habits. He distinguishes between endorsing the general idea of healthier living and personally adopting highly restrictive diets. Rubio admitted his fondness for sweets, particularly Pop-Tarts, which he called "one of the great American innovations." He reiterated that while he backs the MAHA initiative, he is reluctant to personally follow an extremely restrictive diet.
