Margarita Island emerges as stability option for earthquake victims

Margarita Island is emerging as a viable and stable option for those displaced by recent earthquakes, according to Luis Alejandro Fermín, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Nueva Esparta.

The island's geographical characteristics and lower population density make it an attractive alternative for medium-term relocation. Fermín noted a 20% increase in inquiries, primarily for rentals, as victims explore their options.

He explained that the earthquake survivors' experiences have shifted their housing preferences. "Obviously, there is the fear that they do not want apartments (in buildings) high or that type of thing because, of course, they come with a totally different situation, both economically and psychologically," Fermín stated.

In an interview with Unión Radio, Fermín emphasized that Nueva Esparta and Margarita Island currently provide a sense of greater stability and security for both family and industrial investments, positioning the island as a refuge for those affected by the disaster.
