Mariinsky Ballet's Jeon Min-cheol to star in Universal Ballet's 'Swan Lake' in Seoul

Jeon Min-cheol, a first soloist with Russia's Mariinsky Ballet, is set to perform as Prince Siegfried in Universal Ballet's production of "Swan Lake." The classic ballet will be staged at the Seoul Arts Center Opera Theater from August 14 to 23.

This production is a joint venture between the Seoul Arts Center and Universal Ballet, marking the second consecutive year they have presented the work together. "Swan Lake," renowned for Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's majestic score and the choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, is considered one of the three great masterpieces of classical ballet. Universal Ballet has previously toured the production internationally, performing in 12 countries across Asia, North America, Europe, and Africa since its premiere in 1992.

This performance is a representative summer production created together by both institutions, and we hope it will be an opportunity for more audiences to encounter high-level classical ballet.

In this upcoming Seoul run, Jeon will partner with Universal Ballet's principal dancer Hong Hyang-gi. The cast also includes other notable dancers such as Lee Hyun-jun, Lee Dong-tak, Elizaveta Cheprasova, Lee Yu-rim, Lim Seon-woo, Seo Hye-won, Jeon Yeo-jin, and Lee Seung-min. For Seo Hye-won, Yoo Ju-hyung, and Lee Seung-min, this performance signifies their debut in leading roles in the full-length "Swan Lake."

Hanna Jang, president of the Seoul Arts Center, expressed her hope that the production will serve as a signature summer offering, providing audiences with an opportunity to experience high-quality classical ballet. Moon Hoon-sook, director of Universal Ballet, highlighted the excitement surrounding Jeon's participation, noting that he is a dancer who garners attention from ballet fans worldwide. She also emphasized the strong lineup of principal dancers and emerging talents, promising a rich and memorable performance.
