Marijuana courier surrenders to police on bus, reveals 'pay later' drug scheme

Indonesian police have successfully intercepted a significant drug smuggling operation, preventing 20 kilograms of marijuana from reaching its destination in North Jakarta. The bust occurred on Saturday, July 25th, at the Bakauheni Port in Lampung, as the marijuana was being transported via bus from Sumatra.

The suspect, a 28-year-old man identified by the initials GA, also known as Aboy, was reportedly apprehended by officers from the National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim Polri). According to reports, Aboy appeared resigned and requested to be arrested as soon as police boarded the bus for inspection.

Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso of the Directorate of Narcotics Crimes (Dirtipidnarkoba) stated that Aboy confessed to his role as both a supplier and courier. He allegedly showed officers a black suitcase in the bus's luggage compartment containing the packaged marijuana, intended for distribution in the Kampung Bahari area of Tanjung Priok.

Further investigation revealed a novel modus operandi: Aboy operated on a 'pay later' system. He received the marijuana from a supplier named Ikhsan alias RD in Panyabungan, North Sumatra, without any upfront payment. Instead, he agreed to pay the supplier after the drugs were sold, reportedly at a price of 5 million Rupiah per kilogram. This was not his first transaction with Ikhsan, as he admitted to engaging in similar deals twice before, each time involving 20 kg of marijuana.
