Marimekko's iconic poppies bloom across a new Oiva tableware collection

Marimekko is bringing its best-known flower pattern to the dining table with five new additions to the Oiva tableware series. The Finnish lifestyle brand has covered the new bowls and dishes with its Unikko poppy print, giving the familiar design a more flexible role in everyday meals.

Designer Maija Isola created Unikko in 1964, and the large floral motif became one of Marimekko's most recognizable designs. The new pieces use the Oiva series, created by designer Sami Ruotsalainen in 2009, as their base. The series draws on dining cultures around the world and the custom of sharing meals.

The collection is designed for mixing rather than matching a complete set. Diners can choose different bowls, plates and cups according to the food, number of people or occasion. Existing Oiva pitchers, along with Unikko and Kivet mini bowls, can add further variation in size, shape and pattern.

Two color palettes are available. Red, orange and black create a bold contrast, while sand, natural cotton white and forest green offer a softer combination suited to wood or neutral interiors. The collection has launched at Marimekko specialty stores worldwide. Listed examples include a 16-centimeter red Unikko plate priced at 1,390 yuan, a 1,500-milliliter red soup bowl at 2,290 yuan, a 20.5-centimeter sand plate at 1,690 yuan and a 650-milliliter sand teapot at 2,590 yuan.
