Marriage of 6-year-old girl to end family feud prevented in Herat

In a significant intervention, authorities in Afghanistan's western Herat province have successfully stopped the marriage of a six-year-old girl, an arrangement designed to resolve a feud between two families.

Sheikh Azizurrahman Al-Muhajir, the head of the Department for Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice and Hearing Complaints, confirmed the intervention. He stated that his department's personnel acted immediately upon learning of the planned marriage, preventing it from taking place. Those implicated in the arrangement have been referred to judicial and legal authorities for further investigation.
