Moscow experienced one of the most significant drone attacks in recent memory overnight, as Russian forces simultaneously launched missile strikes across Ukraine, resulting in casualties in both countries. Russian officials reported that air defense systems intercepted over 800 drones targeting the capital, with approximately 200 shot down in the Moscow region. Six people were wounded in the region, and a drone strike caused a fire at a Wildberries warehouse in Podolsk. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that the capital was under "ballistic missile attack," prompting residents to seek shelter as explosions were heard and fires broke out in the Obolonsky and Holosiivskyi districts.

Adding to the escalating conflict, a Spanish F-18 fighter jet operating under NATO command shot down a drone that breached Romanian airspace near the border with Ukraine and Moldova. Debris fell in an unpopulated area of the Galati region. This incident marks the second time in two days that the conflict has spilled over into Eastern European NATO territory, following a similar event involving a drone entering Latvian airspace earlier in the week.

Ukrainian officials stated that their increasing attacks deep inside Russia, targeting infrastructure like refineries and warehouses, are intended to undermine Russia's war economy. They specifically cited strikes on Wildberries warehouses as a response to Moscow's bombardment of Ukrainian towns and infrastructure, noting that around 20 such facilities have been targeted since mid-July.
