Massachusetts Mother Accused of Extreme Cruelty in Children's Deaths by Strangulation

Prosecutors allege Lindsay Clancy intentionally and cruelly murdered her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, by strangulation with exercise bands on January 24, 2023. The prosecution argues the repeated nature of the violence and the manual application of the bands indicates extreme atrocity and cruelty, not an impulsive act. Evidence includes the 911 call made by her husband, Patrick Clancy, who discovered the scene after finding his wife injured. He stated on the call, "She killed the children!" as he found the bodies in the basement with bands around the children's necks.

Prosecutors contend that Patrick Clancy removing the bands before emergency services arrived supports their claim of deliberate action. However, Lindsay Clancy's defense attorney argues she was suffering from severe mental illness at the time of the tragedy, possibly postpartum psychosis, and was overmedicated. Both Lindsay and Patrick Clancy have sued the doctors who administered her treatment, alleging improper medical care.

The defense plans to argue for a "guilty but mentally ill" verdict, citing alienism. The trial is scheduled for July 20, 2026, and is expected to draw significant attention due to the gravity of the accusations.
