Massive Fire Rages at Incheon Coupang Logistics Center for Second Day

Firefighters are continuing to battle a large fire that engulfed a Coupang logistics center in Incheon, South Korea, for a second consecutive day. The blaze, which started on the sixth floor of the newly built facility, has spread rapidly through the vast structure, covering an area equivalent to 42 soccer fields.

To gain better access and create space for firefighting operations, authorities deployed an excavator to breach an outer wall. However, the fire's intensity, fueled by flammable household goods stacked on multi-level shelves within the affected floor, and concerns over potential structural collapse have complicated efforts to extinguish the flames. Firefighters have faced significant difficulties entering the building.

While all 121 employees and staff present at the time of the fire managed to evacuate safely, two firefighters required hospitalization. One was treated for smoke inhalation, and the other for exhaustion. The scale of the fire prompted the activation of a national firefighting mobilization order, deploying 228 pieces of equipment and personnel from various emergency services.
