Massive water cuts in Tunis and Ben Arous: several neighborhoods affected for 2 days

Residents in several neighborhoods across the Tunis and Ben Arous governorates are facing significant water disruptions, with the Société Nationale d’Exploitation et de Distribution des Eaux (SONEDE) announcing widespread cuts starting Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

The public company stated that the interruptions are necessary for scheduled modernization work and the connection of new water pipes. These efforts are part of a larger project to develop the southern entrance to the capital. The disruptions are expected to last between 24 to 48 hours, depending on the specific area, with a gradual restoration of water supply anticipated between June 17 and 18.

Key areas impacted include El Mourouj (1 to 6), Nouvelle Médina, Kabaria, Ben Arous center, Bir Kassâa, industrial zones, and the vicinity of the burns hospital. SONEDE has urged residents in the affected zones to take precautions and ensure they have sufficient water reserves to manage during the maintenance period. The company assured that technical teams will work to minimize the duration of the interruptions and ensure a swift return to normal service.
