Matías Soto loses singles debut at Como Challenger

Matías Soto’s singles campaign at the Como Challenger ended immediately after the Chilean lost 6-2, 6-3 to Switzerland’s Kilian Feldbausch.

Soto, ranked 261st by the ATP, lasted one hour and 14 minutes against Feldbausch, who is ranked 233rd. He struggled to hold serve in the opening set, dropping his service three times in the first, third and ninth games. Soto broke Feldbausch once, in the fourth game, but could not turn the set around.

The second set followed a similar pattern. Soto lost serve in the fourth, sixth and eighth games, while breaking his opponent in the seventh. The comeback was not enough to prevent Feldbausch from completing the victory.

Soto will remain in Como for the doubles competition. Ranked 206th in doubles, he will team up with Britain’s Finn Bass, ranked 184th. Their first match will be against Poland’s Karol Drzewiecki and Piotr Matuszewski, the tournament’s top-seeded pair.
