Matsu Coast Guard celebrates sibling success in police exam

A brother and sister serving with the Matsu Coast Guard have achieved a significant milestone, both passing the "115th Grade 3 Water Police Special Examination." This achievement highlights the Matsu Coast Guard's commitment to nurturing talent and encouraging continuous professional development among its personnel.

Zhang Yuchen and Zhang Ruyu, originally from Changhua, supported each other throughout their academic pursuits, their police careers, and their exam preparations. Zhang Yuchen, a graduate of Changhua Senior High School, attended the 40th class of the Police Academy, while his sister Zhang Ruyu, a graduate of Changhua Girls' Senior High School, attended the 42nd class. Their father also served as a police officer, inspiring their own dedication to law enforcement.

The path to passing the exam was challenging. The siblings juggled demanding Coast Guard duties with their studies, often preparing for the exam during their limited off-duty hours. They motivated each other to persevere, finding a balance between work, life, and study.

According to Matsu Coast Guard Captain Zeng Ming-hsi, the unit fosters a strong learning environment through regular training and case discussions, helping officers apply legal principles to practical situations. This approach supports officers in integrating theory with real-world service. Zhang Yuchen and Zhang Ruyu expressed gratitude for the support from their parents, superiors, and colleagues, emphasizing that perseverance leads to achieving one's goals.
