Mayawati: Resolve Hijab Row Locally, Avoid 'Narrow Politics'

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has called for an end to "narrow politics" surrounding the hijab controversy, urging that such matters be resolved at the local level through mutual understanding.

Instead of giving these matters undue importance and turning them into legal disputes in courts, they should be resolved at the local level through mutual understanding and wisdom between school management and the government and administration.

Mayawati emphasized that India's Constitution, shaped under Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, ensures equal rights and the freedom to practice religious customs for all communities. She stressed the importance of respecting religious beliefs and practices, suggesting that turning these issues into legal disputes is counterproductive.

The BSP is an Ambedkarite party that guarantees respect for all sections of society and the safety of their lives, property and religion.

In addition to the hijab issue, Mayawati also addressed a separate dispute in Budaun district concerning the installation of an Ambedkar statue. She urged the Uttar Pradesh government and administration to find a peaceful and appropriate solution to the ongoing tension, which has reportedly led to injuries and property damage.
