Mayor alleges 'grave irregularities' in election of Stéphane Bern to lead Saint-Denis spire reconstruction

Bagayoko alleges "grave irregularities" in the voting process, casting doubt on the legitimacy of Bern's appointment.

In a detailed statement, Bagayoko's municipal majority asserted that the general assembly and board meeting were conducted under flawed conditions. Specific concerns include the eligibility of certain members who voted and the expired mandate of the former mayor, Mathieu Hanotin, who presided over the general assembly. The municipality has commissioned a legal analysis from a firm specializing in the public sector to scrutinize the proceedings.

Grave irregularities

Stéphane Bern, a well-known television host and heritage advocate, was elected to lead the association, Suivez la Flèche!, which is responsible for the reconstruction of the north tower and spire of the basilica. Bern stated his intention was to unite and rally support for the project, emphasizing his commitment to heritage above political affiliations. However, Bagayoko and his supporters left the meeting before the vote, protesting the perceived procedural flaws.

The municipality is considering legal action to have the election annulled. They have indicated they will not participate in the next board meeting and reserve the right to approach the courts.
