Mayor closes illegal brothel in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw after school complaints

An illegal brothel operating in a residential neighborhood of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, Belgium, has been shut down by local authorities. The operation, located in the Negenmanneke district, was discovered after police noticed suspicious activity, including frequent male visitors and scantily clad women visible from the adjacent Sint-Stevens school.

Mayor Jan Desmeth of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw confirmed that the police had been monitoring the property for approximately four months. "Our officers had been keeping an eye on the property for some time," Desmeth stated. "There was a remarkable number of male visitors. The ground floor was inhabited, but scantily clad women were sometimes seen on the second floor of the property from the school. That, of course, raised eyebrows."

During a raid on August 11, police entered the premises and found five sex workers of different Eastern European nationalities. The mayor expedited the closure process to ensure the property was secured before the new school year began. "The whole procedure was accelerated to get everything ready for the new school year," he said. "Fortunately, the whole affair did not take long."

The police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact nature of the operation and whether the individuals involved were engaged in voluntary prostitution. The goal is to ensure the property returns to being a normal residence, with the owner cooperating with authorities.
