Mayor of Montargis Resigns Less Than Five Months After Election Due to Health

Less than five months after his election, Côme Dunois, the mayor of Montargis, has resigned, citing a health problem that requires his full attention. Dunois, who won the election in March, called the decision "without a doubt, the most difficult of my life." He declined to provide specific details about his medical condition but emphasized his commitment to the town's progress.

"The role of mayor requires constant availability," Dunois stated, explaining that he no longer has the "presence, commitment, and energy necessary" to fulfill his duties effectively. He expressed regret but stressed that his personal situation should not impede municipal action or penalize the town.

Under French law, the elected municipal council will choose a successor in September, avoiding the need for new elections. Dunois thanked the residents of Montargis for their support and expressed gratitude to local deputy Thomas Ménagé for his campaign assistance. Ménagé, in turn, acknowledged Dunois' sense of responsibility.
