Mazda CX-90 PHEV 2027 Launches in Mexico as Brand's First Plug-in Hybrid SUV

Mazda has taken a significant step in its electrification strategy with the launch of the Mazda CX-90 PHEV 2027, marking the brand's first plug-in hybrid vehicle in the Mexican market. This new SUV, set to appear in dealerships across the country by the third week of July, heralds the introduction of the Japanese automaker's SMMART mobility strategy in Mexico.

Built on the LARGE platform, the CX-90 PHEV 2027 retains its seven-passenger capacity across three rows. It now features a powertrain that blends the efficiency of a plug-in electric vehicle with the versatility of a gasoline engine, all while maintaining Mazda's signature dynamic driving experience. The e-Skyactiv PHEV technology integrates a 2.5-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, an electric motor, and a 17.8 kWh battery. This setup, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, delivers a combined output of 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

In all-electric mode, the Mazda CX-90 PHEV 2027 can travel up to 42 kilometers on a single charge, according to EPA estimates, suitable for highway driving. For longer journeys, the combined power of both engines provides a total range of up to 800 kilometers, presenting a practical solution for both urban commuting and extended travel. Recharging is designed for user convenience, with an integrated dual charger allowing the battery to fully replenish overnight using a standard household outlet. Using a Level 2 residential charger can reduce the charging time to just two hours and 20 minutes.

The vehicle's dynamic capabilities are enhanced by the i-Activ AWD all-wheel-drive system, a double-wishbone front suspension, and a multi-link independent rear suspension with a stabilizer bar. The Kinematic Posture Control system further refines the driving experience by improving stability during cornering and reducing body roll for a more precise and comfortable ride. The exterior design adheres to Mazda's elegant, premium aesthetic. Inside, notable features include a panoramic sunroof, wood trim, Nappa leather upholstery, and second-row captain's chairs, with a 60/40 split-folding third row to expand cargo versatility. Connectivity is handled by a 12-inch digital cluster and a 12.3-inch central infotainment display. Advanced driver-assistance systems, such as radar cruise control and blind-spot monitoring, are also incorporated for enhanced safety.
