Mazu deity rides Taipei Ferris wheel in unique prayer event

Taipei's Children's Recreation Park transformed into a spiritual hub as it hosted a "God on the Ferris Wheel" prayer event on July 26, centered around the revered Mazu deity. This unique ceremony, themed "Ascend for Blessings, Guard Happiness," saw the Mazu effigy from Taipei's Hulu Temple embark on a symbolic journey aboard the park's Ferris wheel.

The integration of traditional religious practice with a modern amusement park attraction marked a first in Taiwan. The Mazu effigy's ascent on the Ferris wheel was intended to symbolize a blessing from a higher vantage point, offering prayers for the peace and well-being of the city's residents, particularly its children. Following the Ferris wheel ride, the Mazu effigy was paraded through the park, drawing a large crowd of devotees eager to seek blessings.

To encourage wider participation, the park offered free admission until noon on the day of the event. Many families took advantage of this, bringing their children to witness the novel high-altitude prayer ceremony.
