Mbah Praises Enugu Youths for March Against Insecurity and Support for Government Campaign

Governor Peter Mbah praised Enugu youths after they marched through the state capital to support security measures by the federal and state governments. The demonstrators included Enugu youths, National Youth Service Corps members and undergraduate students.

The marchers condemned terrorism, criminality and violent extremism. They sang solidarity songs and carried banners with messages including “Unite Against Terror,” “Be vigilant, secure your neighbourhood,” and “Terrorism destroys lives, unity builds nations.” They later gathered at the Government House to express support for President Bola Tinubu and Mbah.

Mbah said his administration had identified security as a recurring risk to the state’s development from its beginning. He praised the youths for moving beyond observation and taking an active role in the campaign against cultism, crime and terrorism.

“For you to march through the streets and end here preaching the message against crime and terrorism is profound. Ordinarily, we should be the ones preaching to you against such vices,” Mbah said. He pledged to mobilize young people across Enugu and said greater youth involvement could reduce crime while freeing resources for jobs and poverty eradication.

The governor said correctional centres could eventually become unnecessary in Nigeria if young people avoided criminal activity, pointing to countries that had closed facilities after crime fell. He urged the youths to take their campaign to every part of the state and said a safer Enugu would attract investors and create wider economic benefits.
