McDonald's Buns to Be Produced in Kocaeli as Global Giant Plans Two Factories

Grupo Bimbo, a global food giant, is set to expand its operations in Turkey with the construction of two new factories in the Kandıra Gıda İhtisas Organized Industrial Zone in Kocaeli. The investment, spearheaded by Bimbo QSR, will focus on producing hamburger buns for McDonald's restaurants, both domestically and internationally.

The legal and infrastructure hurdles in the Kandıra region have been resolved, paving the way for accelerated investments. Bimbo QSR has acquired land within the industrial zone, with construction expected to commence in the coming months. While hamburger buns for McDonald's are the primary focus, the facilities are also slated to produce other products.

Grupo Bimbo, founded in 1945, is a major player in the global baking industry, boasting a presence in 96 countries. The company operates 251 production facilities, serves over 1,600 sales centers, and employs more than 152,000 people across four continents. With an annual sales volume exceeding $22 billion, Grupo Bimbo offers more than 9,000 product varieties under 100 brands.

The Kandıra Gıda İhtisas OSB, comprising 105 parcels, has already attracted 58 investors. The first facility to begin production in the zone was Nesos, an affiliate of the Ülker group, which started operations in 2023, producing sauces for major fast-food brands. The completion of essential infrastructure, including water, electricity, and natural gas, has removed significant obstacles for investors in the region.
