Measles deaths in Bangladesh rise to 820 with four new fatalities

Measles continues to claim lives in Bangladesh, with four more patients succumbing to symptoms consistent with the disease in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00 am yesterday. This brings the total number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths this year to 820.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified these latest fatalities as suspected measles deaths. The number of suspected measles deaths now stands at 725, while the count of laboratory-confirmed deaths remains unchanged at 95.

In the same period, the country reported 990 new suspected measles cases, pushing the cumulative total of suspected infections nationwide to 123,753. Additionally, 170 new confirmed measles cases were recorded, bringing the total laboratory-confirmed infections to 15,442. Since March 15, a significant number of patients, 106,239, with suspected measles have been hospitalized, with DGHS data indicating that 102,467 have since recovered.
