MEB's 2026-2027 Calendar Announced: When Will Schools Open?

Turkey's Ministry of National Education (MEB) has officially released the working calendar for the 2026-2027 academic year, setting the start and end dates for the upcoming school term. The new academic year is scheduled to commence on September 14, 2026, and will conclude on June 25, 2027.

The directive, signed by Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, has been distributed to all provinces. Teacher professional development activities will begin earlier, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

The first semester will officially begin with the ringing of the school bell on Monday, September 14, 2026, and will end on Friday, January 22, 2027. To support the transition for new students, "orientation programs" will be held from September 7 to September 11, 2026, for students entering preschool and the first grade of primary school. Additionally, guidance activities will be provided for students entering the 5th grade of middle schools, preparatory and 9th grades of secondary schools, and those residing in dormitories to help them adapt to the new school environment.

The first mid-term break for the 2026-2027 academic year is set to begin on Monday, November 16, 2026, and will conclude on Friday, November 20, 2026. The mid-year holiday, or semester break, will commence on Monday, January 25, 2027, and will finish on Friday, February 5, 2027. The second semester is slated to start on Monday, February 8, 2027.

Further breaks are also outlined, with the second mid-term break scheduled from Monday, March 8, 2027, to Friday, March 12, 2027. Teacher professional development activities at the end of the academic year will take place from June 28 to June 30, 2027. The 2026-2027 academic year will officially end on Friday, June 25, 2027.
