Medellín corruption hearing for ex-mayor's brother postponed again

A crucial judicial hearing concerning alleged corruption during the administration of former Medellín Mayor Daniel Quintero has been rescheduled for the third time. The imputation hearing for Miguel Andrés Quintero Calle, Daniel Quintero's brother, and others involved in irregular contracting, was formally postponed on August 25.

The new date for the hearing, which includes charges of undue interest in contract execution and embezzlement, is set for August 31. The case also implicates Vanesa Álvarez Restrepo, Álvaro Alonso Villada García, and Sebastián de Dios Ortega Urán. The Fiscalía General de la Nación is expected to formally charge the defendants based on evidence gathered regarding alleged contractual irregularities that affected public administration in Medellín.

Medellín's current mayor, Federico Gutiérrez, voiced strong criticism regarding the repeated postponements. He emphasized that the city is a victim in this judicial process and stated that his administration will firmly request pre-trial detention for Quintero Calle and Ortega Urán. Gutiérrez vowed to prevent further delays in the proceedings.

The public's attention is now focused on the August 31 hearing, where the prosecution will present its evidence and determine the legal status of the four individuals.
