Medvedev's strong form continues with convincing win over Rinderknech

Daniil Medvedev continued his strong run at the U.S. Open with a straight-sets victory over Arthur Rinderknech, winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Friday to reach the fourth round.

The seventh-seeded Russian fell behind 4-2 early after losing serve for the first time in the tournament. He quickly recovered, however, winning four consecutive games to take control of the opening set.

Medvedev then tightened his grip on the match. He faced no break points in the second set and converted his only break chance. He broke Rinderknech in the opening game of the third set and closed out his 35th victory of the season.

The win avenged Medvedev’s most recent defeat to the Frenchman at the Shanghai Masters. Medvedev had won their previous meeting, also at the U.S. Open, in straight sets during the 2022 second round.

Medvedev will play either Frances Tiafoe or Monaco’s Valentin Vacherot next. He is seeking a place in the last 16 for the seventh time in eight seasons.
