Meet new US Consul General in Lagos, Brandon Hudspeth

Brandon Hudspeth has officially taken up his post as the new Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, Nigeria. He will serve a three-year tenure, representing the senior U.S. government official across 17 states in southern Nigeria. Hudspeth succeeds Rick Swart, who retired in July.

A career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service, Hudspeth is returning to Lagos for his second assignment. He previously served as the Political-Economic Section Chief at the consulate from 2020 to 2022. Expressing his honor at resuming his diplomatic duties, Hudspeth noted his firsthand knowledge of the strength of the U.S.-Nigeria partnership and the shared energy and entrepreneurial spirit between the two nations.

Hudspeth aims to reconnect with old acquaintances and forge new partnerships to bolster bilateral relations. His key priorities include expanding trade and investment, fostering innovation, and enhancing collaboration in the technology and creative sectors to create new opportunities for shared prosperity between Nigeria and the United States.

With approximately two decades of diplomatic experience across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Washington D.C., Hudspeth brings a wealth of expertise. His prior assignments include serving as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Windhoek, Namibia, and leading U.S. civilian assistance programs in the Philippines. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Morehouse College and holds master's degrees from Harvard University's Kennedy School and the National Defense University.
