Melbourne Police Arrest Three Teenagers in Burglary Spree

Melbourne police have arrested three teenagers in connection with a series of alleged aggravated burglaries and thefts that occurred in the city's north-eastern suburbs. The arrests took place early Friday morning, with detectives apprehending a 17-year-old from the Greater Shepparton area and two others, aged 15 and 17, from the Manningham area in Darebin.

The charges filed against the trio include multiple counts of aggravated burglary, burglary, attempted theft from a motor vehicle, and theft of a motor vehicle. Victoria Police stated that the charges stem from several incidents on August 28, including two aggravated burglaries in Balwyn North, an attempted vehicle theft in Templestowe, and further aggravated burglaries in Bulleen and Templestowe.

This development occurs as youth crime has become a significant point of contention in the lead-up to Victoria's state election in November. Premier Ben Carroll has vowed to maintain a firm stance on crime, while the Coalition has proposed new legislation targeting offenses like car theft and attempted carjacking.

Recent statistics from the Crime Statistics Agency (CSA) for the 12 months ending March 2026 indicate a decrease in youth crime for the first time in four years, with a 6% fall in alleged offenses involving young people. However, adult crime saw a rise of over 10%, attributed to increases in bail breaches, retail theft, and family violence order violations. The trio were remanded to appear before a children's court on Saturday.
