Memorial complex for Serbs killed or missing from Croatia begins construction in Serbia

Construction has commenced on a memorial complex in Banstol, near Sremski Karlovci, Serbia. This site is dedicated to all Serbs who were killed or disappeared from the territory of present-day Croatia. The announcement was made by Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski, Serbia's Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs and president of the government's Committee for Nurturing the Traditions of Liberation Wars.

Speaking in Banja Luka after laying wreaths at the Monument to Fallen Fighters of the Srpska Republic's War of Homeland Defense, Đurđević Stamenkovski highlighted the unique aspect of this memorial complex. For the first time, the names of over 8,000 Serbs from Croatia – killed, perished, or missing – will be inscribed in one location.

"This will not just be a list of victims, but a testament that these people lived, loved, raised their families, and had their homes," the minister stated, as reported by her cabinet. "As long as their names are carved in stone, they will never be erased from the memory of the Serbian people."
