Mérida tourism seeks alternatives as cable car closes for maintenance

The tourism industry in Mérida faces uncertainty with the temporary closure of the Mukumbarí cable car for maintenance. Marcos Delgado, president of Fedecámaras Mérida, voiced concern that the "main installation" of the state will be unavailable during the crucial holiday season.

Delgado stated that the private sector is prepared to welcome visitors, but the cable car's closure presents a significant challenge. Fedecámaras lacks information regarding any potential schedule for reopening parts of the facility during the vacation period.

In response, local tour operators are actively promoting alternative experiences. Tourist guide José Uzcátegui highlighted options such as excursions to the páramo, the Mocotíes Valley, and La Culata Valley. He also mentioned extreme sports like paragliding and visits to theme parks as ways to engage visitors despite the cable car's absence.
